Magnets that make electrical firefighting equipment more efficient

    Published: 2023-05-14 09:05:08 • Daniel Gårdefelt

Technology continues to play a big role in making emergency services better and better. The firefighting business is no different, and magnets are a big part of it. This post will explain why magnets are so important to high performance electric firefighting tools.

Electric motors in many types of firefighting equipment cannot function without magnets, especially powerful ones. Tools like "Jaws of Life", water pumps and even electric fire engines are among these.

The Jaws of Life, used to get people out of cars when they are stuck, is a good example. The electric version of this tool is easier to carry and use than the hydraulic version. At its core, this tool has a high-performance magnet-based motor that gives it enough power to cut through metal while being small and lightweight.

Likewise, electric motors with high-performance magnets make firefighting water pumps work well. While using less energy, these pumps can maintain a high pressure, which is important for fighting fires. This not only makes the pump work better, but it also uses less power from the fire engine.

When it comes to vehicles, electric fire trucks with motors that use magnets are an exciting change. Traditional diesel trucks are more powerful, use more energy and emit more pollutants than these trucks. They can respond to emergencies without making more noise or increasing air pollution, which is a big plus in cities.

But there are some problems that arise when high-performance magnets are used in electrical firefighting equipment. The way these magnets get the rare earths they need is often linked to environmental and political issues. Also, when these magnets reach the end of their useful life, they are difficult to dispose of and recycle.

Even with these problems, magnets in electrical firefighting equipment appear to have a bright future. If materials science continues to improve, it may be possible to make rare earths less harmful to the environment. The pursuit of greener and more efficient ways to fight fires will also lead to more innovations in this area.

We can state that magnets are making a big difference in the firefighting industry. They make life-saving tools work better, making firefighting more efficient and better for the environment. As we look forward to more technologically advanced ways of fighting fires, we can be sure that magnets will continue to play a very important role.
